Vision Statement

Vision Statement

Ideas
The vision of my work is to create a gritty urban 3D Environment inspired by cities across Eastern Europe, Particularly Poland (Krakow & Warsaw). I found the architecture of these cities to be highly appealing, particularly the gothic styles of the cathedrals (St. Mary's Basilica, Krakow,) medieval styled buildings and large town squares.
Medium
I will be mainly using Autodesk Maya to build this environment, Photoshop to apply textures and possibly ZBrush to increase polygon detail. Rendered Images will be brought onto Photoshop for any alterations that may need to be made. (Contrast, Brightness, etc.)

Why?
As mentioned above, the reasons for this are that the architecture is very detailed, and has interesting motifs within the buildings. Sharp pointed towers decorated with carvings in the stone, Statuettes throughout the building, gargoyles etc.

Audience
The target audience for my work is anyone interested in politics, religion or those who appreciate architecture, stone masonry or Craftsmanship

Concepts - Mixed Media

This post shows my photography combined with digital painting. As I said before I have a lot of images from my time on holiday in Poland which I intend to use as a source of inspiration for my work, in particular, the style of the buildings and other wartime props that could be used. Certain styles of typography would also have to be used to fit the period.

Second Thoughts...

After receiving the feedback for my presentation, I am now going to fully focus on a 3D Environment, and getting them to a production quality. Maybe if there is time in the second semester I could learn and show some clips of the dynamics in action however I am leaving it for now. I am mainly focusing on perspective now and using visual research methods as a source of information.

Inspiration will be taken from games such as Battlefield and Call of duty. Also Films/Programmes such as Saving private Ryan, The pacific and Band of Brothers.

Scene from the film "Saving Private Ryan"
 Scene from "The Pacific*

Each of these images seem to be very cold and desaturated, there is a lot of dark tones greens, greys, blacks, browns.

I also have a lot of photographs taken from holidays in poland, whilst there I visited Auschwitz and although it was a very dark and sad place to visit, I think i could use images from there as a source of inspiration. I also visited the Schindler factory whilst in krakow and the war museum in warsaw, so I have alot of images i can reference to.

I could also make a collage of the images cut out to set the scene and to refer to when building my 3d environment.

Autodesk Maya 2015: Bullet Physics

Creative research (Week 2)

For this module I intend to increase my knowledge and understanding in:

  • Creating dynamics (such as wind, fire, water, smoke).
  • Increasing level of detail on textures.
  • Produce a city or part of a city displaying the techniques I have learned.
  • Learning about fragments, and dividing parts of the mesh to create realistic explosions on buildings.
I will be creating a realistic looking city, showing the skills learnt over the course of this year. I mainly want to focus on the use of dynamics and particle effects and will be learning to do so through the use of Autodesk Maya.

The image above displays the desired end result of what i want to achieve, a realistic gritty urban 3D environment.

An example of the use of dynamics in Maya, particle effects and fragments.
